UTEP Students Show Off Inventions
EL PASO — Some young inventors were wowing crowds at UTEP today. Electrical and computer engineering students have spent the past year designing innovative inventions as part of a capstone project that's required to graduate. At an open house today, the public got a chance to check out their work. Among the designs was a fabricated safe house where doors and locks and could be controlled using the internet.
"We wanted to create a safe environment because one of our team members lives in Juarez and he says they have a lot of problems with security and I'm sure here in El Paso we have some problems as well, so we wanted an innovative way to incorporate technology and security and mix hem in one and we were able to do that in our project," said Stephanie Sanches, a senior majoring in Electrical Engineering.
Other projects ranged from electrically grown mushrooms to a smart fridge that makes shopping for groceries easier by keeping track of what's inside the refrigerator.
