UTEP students react to the Pope's resignation
El Paso- News from the Vatican took UTEP students by surprise today.
Professor Ann Horak's Religious Studies classroom was supposed to continue their discussion on Hinduism, but news of Pope Benedict XVI's resignation brought a welcome open discussion. Historically, at least since the 15th century, the Pope was appointed for life, only to be replace upon death and after a mourning period.
Horak's class recognized the moment as once in their lifetimes and acknowledged the resignation due to poor health. They want to know what role he will play in the future.
