UTEP researchers win grant to make solar cells more efficient
David Zubia Ph.D., professor of electrical and computer engineering at UTEP, has been awarded a three-year grant of $895,000 from the Department of Energy to research the defects of solar cells and learn how to make them more efficient.
The project will occur in two phases. Phase one will consist of the evaluation of the defects of cadmium telluride - a semiconductor material used in the solar cell industry.
After understanding the correlation between the defects and electrical performance, phase two will focus on eliminating the defects.
