EL PASO - As state legislators inch closer towards voting for a measure that would allow guns on college campuses, students at UTEP say, not so fast.

UTEP's student government today rallied against the proposed measure that has widespread support in the Texas House and Senate.

The measure would allow people with proper gun licenses to carry concealed guns on campus.

The rally took place at Leech Grove.

Keep in mind that the location of the "rally", Leech Grove, was in an area where CHLs are already permitted to conceal carry by law. The only thing that this bill would do is permit concealed carry within the buildings on campus.

Looks like a real massive crowd there, lol.

not a good idea at all!!!The next thing you know we are all over the news because of another tragedy story like in other college campuses.Lets put a stop now before its to late!!

The event was a forum not a rally in favor or opposition to the bill.

Proper licenses...so they are trained and passed background checks ect...So can anyone explain what the problem with trained and vetted people protecting themselves is? The whole no guns thing has been tried...look at Mexico

In our violent bordertown, how do we know that lots of UTEP & EPCC students already carry whether they have a CHL or not. Just about every student, faculty or staff member carries a backpack, briefcase, purse, etc. along with a straight face, so how do we know that they are carrying a handgun? It is naive to say Gun Control will prevail and what will the school administration do -> have Campus Police at every entrance checking our packs or install scanners?
