UTEP Hosts "Largest" Career Expo of 2012
EL PASO — About 100 local, state, national and international employers will be offering students job opportunities this week at the University of Texas at El Paso Career Expo 2012.
The expo, said to be the largest and most well-attended job fair of the year, anticipates about 2,500 job-hungry students. Participants will include underclassmen in search of summer internships and students in search of full-time employment after they graduate with their bachelor's, master's or doctoral degrees.
Many of the University's students have stopped by UTEP's Career Center to hone their personal messages and to get job fair tips, said Betsy Castro-Duarte, associate director at the UTEP Career Center.
"This is still an employers' market," Castro-Duarte said. The August 2012 numbers from the U.S. Department Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics showed 8.1 percent unemployment; 9.6 percent for El Paso County in July. "They can afford to be picky. That's why it's important for our students to be able to tell their stories."
The expo will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, on the concourse of the Haskins Center.
