UTEP to host screening of Ruben Salazar documentary

Salazar grew up in El Paso and worked for LA Times covering Chicano Civil Rights movement
El Paso, TX (KTSM) — The University of Texas at El Paso is hosting a screening of the PBS documentary about Mexican-American journalist, and El Pasoan, Ruben Salazar. The film is called Ruben Salazar: Man in the Middle.
Salazar was born in Juarez and raised in El Paso.
He started his journalism career at the El Paso Herald-Post, then moved on to work for the Los Angeles Times in 1959. During his time there, he wrote about, and became a symbol, of the Chicano Civil Rights Movement in the late 1960s.
He was killed by a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy during the National Chicano Moratorium march against the Vietnam War in 1970.
The film screening will be held Wednesday, April 9, from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at UTEP's Union Cinema. It will also include a panel discussion with Rosa Guerrero and Senator Jose Rodriguez.
