EL PASO - The University of Texas at El Paso’s Police Department is teaming up with the El Paso Police Department to deter vehicle theft.

Free vehicle identification number etching will be available to UTEP faculty, staff and students from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today in UTEP parking lot P-4, on Schuster Avenue.

Officers will be on hand to etch vehicle identification numbers on all windows of the vehicle.

Having the VIN etched on the glass makes it more challenging for thieves to resell a stolen vehicle if they try to change the original identification number.
