USDA to Pay Visit to Las Cruces Farmers Market
LAS CRUCES — Under Secretary Avalos will visit the Las Cruces Farmers & Crafts Market to highlight success stories that demonstrate the positive impact of farmers markets within the local community.
The visit was planned for Saturday, August 11 to see the impact of farmers markets in the local community and to celebrate National Farmers Market Week.
Farmers markets support business development and increase consumer access to fresh, local foods, according to the USDA. Farmers markets provide valuable marketing opportunities and low barriers of entry for new and beginning farmers; allow smaller-scale farmers to enjoy a profitable local outlet for their production and receive instant customer feedback; and allow communities to come together around local and regional food systems based on USDA findings.
Avalos was expected to be there from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Las Cruces Farmers and Crafts Market located at 138 North Downtown Mall, Las Cruces, NM 88001.
