The Tiguas are closer to determining the future of their own tribe. The U.S. Senate has agreed that the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo can rid themselves of the one-eighth blood requirement to stay on the reservation. The bill written by Congressman Silvestre Reyes started in the house, passed, then moved to the Senate. Every other federally recognized tribe in the country determines their own membership rules, but the Tiguas' membership is still decided by the federal government. The bill will now go to President Obama's desk for approval.
