New data shows that retail sales have continued to climb for the seventh consecutive month.

The gains came despite snowstorms that capped spending from from workers that had more money in their paychecks, from a Social Security tax cut. However, January's retail increase was the weakest since June.

Experts say despite the good retail news, the weak housing market remains a big problem for the economy.

According to the Commerce Department, retail sales rose 0.3 percent last month to $318.6 billion. Sales have risen more than 14 percent from the recession low, in December 2008.
