(CNN) — Saturday mail service will soon be a thing of the past. U-S Postal Service officials announced today (Wednesday) it will stop delivering first-class mail on Saturdays but packages will be delivered.

The change, which goes into effect August 1st, is expected to save a few billion dollars. The agency also plans to implement a number of other cost cutting measures as well.
