WASHINGTON D.C. - President Obama and his Mexico counterpart talked today about their mutual war on drugs.
Obama said he and President Felipe Calderon have agreed to strengthen their cooperation in combating drug violence.
Obama praised Calderon for his "extraordinary courage" in fighting the cartels that have been responsible for deaths on both sides of the border.
"Tens of thousands of Mexicans, innocent citizens and dedicated security forces have lost their lives. I have reaffirmed to President Calderon that in this cause, Mexico has a full partner with the United States, because whether they live in Texas or Tijuana, our people have a right to be safe in their communities."
The presidents also declared a breakthrough in efforts to end a long-standing dispute over cross-border trucking.
