Updated: Beer-Run Suspect Threatened Officer With Metal Scissors, Shot In Arm And Leg

EL PASO - A 15-year-old boy is recovering in a hospital after being shot in the arm and leg by a veteran police officer after a beer-run just before noon Tuesday.
Alonzo Torres, a 15-year veteran El Paso Police sergeant spotted the teen who allegedly stole beer from a Paisano Drive Circle K in a residential area south of the convenience store.
The officer attempted to detain the teenager for questioning when he threw a bottle at the sergeant's car.
Investigators said the teen then ran into an alley and the officer chased him on foot. The 15-year-old approached the officer with a a pair of metallic scissors in a threatening manner.
"He refused to follow the officer's commands to drop the object and approached the officer in an aggressive manner with the sharp object," said El Paso Police Spokesman Chris Mears. "The officer fearing for his safety fired his duty weapon striking the subject."
Police said he was transported to University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
The veteran sergeant was placed on administrative leave pending further investigation.
