EL PASO -Police have identified a woman killed in an early morning car crash on I-10.

That accident happened near the Westbound Hawkins exit around 2:30 Sunday morning, and it involved several cars.

Police say Veronica Scobell, 40, crashed into a truck and then pulled over on the side of I-10 with the other driver. Investigators don't know why, but say, Scobell then reversed into oncoming traffic and was hit and killed by another car.

She wasn't wearing a seatbelt and may have been drinking, according to a press release.

No one else was seriously hurt.

I think generally people have become more irresponsible behind the wheel. Alot of drinking and driving, texting and driving, and I still see people talking on their cell phones while driving even though it is now against the law. And lets not forget those who constantly feel the need to speed. I'm afraid many more people will continue to lose their lives until we learn to drive responsibly.

What are the statistics on persons killed on I-10 so far this year? It sometimes seems like at least one person every day. Surely that can't be correct. But it must be at least several every week. Now if you add in people killed in automobile accidents on all El Paso streets, the number must surely be even higher.
What can be the problem? It was not always this way.
