EL PASO — Police are investigating an overnight stabbing following a fight in Central El Paso.
Officers were called out to the Lincoln/Johnson Apts. at 3301 Lincoln Ave. at approximately 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. A total of six individuals, all males in their late teens, were injured and five were transported to University Medical Center. Two of the victims were said to be in serious condition.
According to emergency scanners, neighbors called police when the saw about 20 people involved in a noisy fight in the apartment complex. Neighbors reported hearing people yelling and windows breaking. One woman who did not want to be identified, told Newschannel 9 that she heard someone say the fight was over a pair of sunglasses.
"From my understanding, when I heard the arguing, I heard a girl shouting that they were fighting over some Oakley sunglasses, which I figure are sunglasses," she said.
The woman's son was stabbed during the fight, but she said he went outside to help after the fight had already started.
"My son just came outside to help this boy that he saw getting beat up. The next thing I know, my son was hurt, he couldn't breathe and he couldn't talk," she said.
The mother whose son was injured said it was a senseless attack.
"Maybe because they're young, I don't understand why they were fighting over sunglasses, and all these people got hurt," she said.
Investigators were questioning suspects at the scene. No arrests had been made as of Wednesday afternoon.
