Unidentified Man Loses Control of Motorcycle, Hits Curb Before Hitting Pole

UPDATE: 8:00 A.M.

Police Spokesman Darrel Petry said the El Paso Police Department is working with U.S. Army Officials at Fort Bliss to notify the victim's family.

The victim was a 28-year-old man, but his name has still not been released.

Investigators have determined that speed and alcohol are not factors in the crash.  According to police, the motorcyclist was approaching a curve on Airway, when he lost control and hit a curb.  The driver of the motorcycle was thrown off the bike, then the motorcycle hit a light pole.

The victim was pronounced dead at UMC. Investigators said the driver was wearing a helmet.

This is the 9th traffic fatality of 2012, compared to 14 at this same time in 2011.  It is the third motorcycle fatality compared to two at this same time last year.

An unidentified man died Tuesday afternoon after El Paso police say he lost control of his motorcycle and hit a curb, then hit a light pole. The accident happened on the East side, on the 2000 block of Airway. EPPD officers were called to the scene at 5:57 P.M. Detective Darrel Petry, spokesman for the department, said the man was driving southbound before the accident. The victim was taken to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. While there were military fatigues seen at the scene of the accident, Det. Petry could not confirm if the man was a part of the military. As of 8:01 P.M. Tuesday night, there was no further information released.
