UPDATE: Man shot after resisting arrest

 Dozens of federal and local officers were dispatched to a west El Paso department store after a man reportedly resisted arrest.

"He broke the containment and attempted to flee at which time the agents lives were threatened and they fired their weapons" DEA’s spokesperson Diana Apodaca said.

The shooting happened just before noon, DEA officials said the man was taken to the hospital with severe injuries and underwent surgery, after the shooting several frightened and concerned residents left the department store, DEA spokesperson says security measures were taken at all times…

"It was a very specific location where there was not any outside civilians located at the time like we said we always try to use areas where there's the least amount of people around"

This west El Paso resident witnessed the investigation; he says the officers did the right thing

"they have a guy or whatever chase him or kneel him down obviously there's a strong suspicion of something and if he acts towards them in a violent matter heck yeah shoot him" El Paso resident Roy Sinclair said.

The Drug Enforcement Agency as well as El Paso Police are on the scene of a shooting in West El Paso.

Shortly before 11:30 Friday morning, shots were fired in the  parking lot behind Kohl's Department store along the 5600 block of North Desert Boulevard.

DEA agents officials said two agents were trying to make an arrest, but said the suspect drove off. Agents said they felt threatened so they opened fire on the car.

DEA is the lead agency handling the scene, and EPPD officers are there as back up and were not involved in the shooting.

One person was transported to the hospital.

The parking lot around the store is blocked off, as law enforcement officials continue their investigation.
