EL PASO – The family of a man hit by a car in Montana Vista told investigators that he seemed suicidal moments before he was killed.

It happened around 10:30 p.m. Monday in the 5000 block of O'Leary about 2 miles north of Montana. At first, the sheriff's office was called out after a family reported that their relative was suicidal and had gone missing.

But then deputies say the family called back reporting that the same man had been hit by a car while he was walking on the side of the road. Deputies say the driver was headed north on O'Leary when the car hit the man.

He died at the scene. The victim's name has not been released.

We're told the driver who hit him stopped to help. It's not clear if the man walked into the road, or exactly how the crash happened.
