Update: Man dies after being shot by Las Cruces police
Las Cruces, NM (KTSM) — Las Cruces Police now confirm that a man shot by police this afternoon has died after being flown to an El Paso hospital.
The 37-year-old man who shot when police responded to a home on the 1300 block of Bronco Way for a domestic incident.The first arriving officers spotted the man exiting a residence with what appeared to be a weapon.
Preliminary information from the investigation indicates that the 37-year-old man forced the officers into a situation where they had to respond by firing at least one round that struck the his upper torso. The man was transported by ambulance to Memorial Medical Center where he remains in critical condition at this time.
Three Las Cruces Police officers will be placed on standard administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
The multi-agency task force investigating the shooting is the Dona Ana County Officer-Involved Incident Task Force and includes investigators from New Mexico State Police, the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office, New Mexico State University Police and Las Cruces Police. The Task Force reports its findings to the Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
