LAS CRUCES - A Las Cruces man was arrested Sunday after he exposed himself to a 17-year-old and then tried forcing the girl into his truck.

Enrique Vasquez Jr., of the 1700 block of south Locust Street, is charged with one felony count of attempted kidnapping and one count of aggravated indecent exposure.

Las Cruces Police detectives learned that sometime after 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 8, the 17-year-old girl was walking along Hadley Avenue when she was approached by a man driving a red Chevrolet S-10 pickup. The girl told investigators that the truck passed by a couple of times before the driver stopped in front of her.

The driver, later identified as Vasquez, then exposed himself to the girl and asked if she wanted a ride. When the girl refused, Vasquez got out of the truck and attempted to force the girl in his vehicle. The girl fought off Vasquez and punched him several times until he relented, got back into his truck and drove away.

The girl ran home and told her mother who contacted law enforcement. Shortly thereafter a New Mexico State Police officer located Vasquez as he drove along west Picacho Avenue. The girl positively identified Vasquez as the perpetrator.

Vasquez was transported to the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $30,000.
