FORT WORTH, TEXAS— The father of two Florida teens whom were shot and killed by their mother spoke about his children at a memorial service for the teens on Tuesday.
Army Colonel Parker Schenecker said he wanted his children to be remembered for their lives, not by the way they died.
"As I mourn the loss of my two children, my dearly beloved children, I am comforted that they have been welcomed on the other side and heaven is rejoicing at their coming," said Army Col. Parker Schenecker.
Calyx, 16, and Beau, 13, never lived in the Texas city, but often visited their father there.
The two teens were found dead in late January after the mother of 50-year-old Julie Powers Schenecker called police on January 28 and asked them to check on her daughter because Powers Schenecker ws depressed. Officers found Powers Schenecker covered in blood outside her Tampa, Florida home in the backyard.
Police said Schenecker shot Beau in the head twice for “talking back” as they drove Thursday evening. Powers Schenecker then drove home, police said, and shot Calyx in the face as she was doing homework at her computer in her bedroom.
Powers Schenecker is charged with first-degree murder.
