LAS CRUCES— A Doña Ana man is in custody and his family is safe after a nearly four hour stand-off with police early Tuesday morning.

Juan Carlos Manquera, 33, was taken into custody and booked into the Doña Ana County Detention Center under a $75,000 cash-only bond after nearly four hours of negotiation. No injuries were reported.

Doña Ana sheriff's deputies were called to the Evergreen Mobile Home Park around 10:15 p.m. Monday night after callers reported a stolen vehicle. Deputies were also told that the owner of the vehicle was armed and was also looking for the vehicle. Deputies were able to find the vehicle, but could not find the owner.

The parents of the owner of the car contacted the deputies and told them their son, Manquera, was emotionally disturbed and had made threats against them and himself. The family told deputies the man was armed and was inside their home, and was refusing to come out. The family was led to safety and the Doña Ana County Sheriff's Department’s Special Response and Crisis Negotiation Team was called. Manquera is said to have wielded what appeared to be a weapon several times during the negotiation.

Manquera was charged with five three-degree felony counts of aggravated assault against a police officer with a deadly weapon, one fourth-degree felony count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, one fourth-degree degree felony count of tampering with evidence, one fourth-degree felony count of felon in possession of a firearm, one misdemeanor count of resisting, evading or obstructing an officer, and one petty misdemeanor count of negligent use of a firearm while intoxicated.
