CANUTILLO - While Memorial Day weekend is a time to honor our fallen heroes, and celebrate, United Blood Services said it's also a time to donate blood.

Today, they held an emergency blood drive at Canutillo High School. UBS hoped to rack up blood supply before the holiday weekend kicks off, because they said, blood usage tends to go up around this time.

"Right now, we're heading into Memorial Day weekend. We know the usage is really high, unfortunately, during the holidays...we tend to have a lot of accidents, so we need to build a surplus up, so with any accidents that may happen this weekend, the hospitals are ready to go," said Monique Hilverding, with UBS.

UBS also offered donors the chance to make an appointment, so that long lines wouldn't be an issue.
