EL PASO - It's not often we get to bring you good news, but we have a heart-warming story for you. It's an update on a baby girl fighting for her life and the community coming together to help her.
"God we ask you for a miracle," a preacher said while holding his hand over baby Erin Marquez.
Folks at the Destiny Family Christian Center spent Sunday morning praying for just one cause; a successful operation for baby Erin who was born with two holes in her heart.
Little Erin has been fighting for her life from day one. Her family says she's already survived open heart surgery, but she needs to do it again. It will be her fourth surgery, and while little Erin is priceless to the community, the surgeries and trips to the San Antonio hospital she needs to be at cost money.
"The thing is their insurance wouldn't cover them to fly out there unless the little girl was in the hospital in dire straits," Operation Hope Co-Founder Angel Gomez said.
Gomez first heard little Erin's story on our newscast. The family was raising money with a car show, because they couldn't afford the trip the hospital.
"Southwest and Operation Hope stepped in, and we're sending the family down to San Antonio," Gomez said.
Operation Hope raised money to buy tickets for the family, and Gomez contacted Southwest Airlines. To everyone's surprise, Southwest donated the roundtrip tickets and Operation Hope was able to present the family with a check for the money that they raised for the tickets.
"It's an unbelievable feeling, amazing feeling, that the community helps out people like us," Erin's father Ray Marquez said. "We're hoping this surgery will be the last one."
Now the family is hoping they receive help from above.
"It's all in God's hands," Marquez said.
