EL PASO – The Texas state Parent-Teachers Association (PTA) isn't happy with Governor Rick Perry, and they're traveling across the state to let everybody know.
A stop in El Paso today, focused on urging Gov. Perry to use the state's rainy day fund, and find other ways to close budget gaps. Local leaders joined in, arguing that cuts to public education can't be tolerated. Legislators friendly with the PTA, said budget problems can easily be fixed by the governor's office.
"Evidently, the governor is that roadblock, and we really need him to give them a thumbs up and say it's ok, fund public education because it is the foundation for our economy here in Texas,” said the PTA's Leslie Boggs.
In the past, the governor has authorized the use of some rainy day fund money. However, he's now refusing to release any more money to help with the budget deficit.
