EL PASO – Imagine living on a very fixed income, only to then get cut off from your checking account. That's what one El Paso man has had to deal with. He turned to Newschannel 9 for help.
It first seemed like a minor issue with a check, but David Huerta said that's snowballed into a much bigger problem for him.
“I've been stressed. I've not been able to buy my medicines that I need,” said Huerta.
On April 1st, he bought a windshield wiper from AutoZone. He wrote out a check, for $6.48.
“The check cleared my bank on April the 5th, for the correct amount. Then, on April the 12th, the same check number cleared my bank for $500,” said Huerta.
Huerta said he doesn't know how that happened. He got in touch with AutoZone and his bank, and was told everything was fine. But, he found out, that wasn't the case.
“On the 13th. I went to get some medicines for my disabilities and ailments. And, the check was not accepted,” stated Huerta.
Huerta told us that he's been stressed out, because he hasn't been able to get the things that he needs.
“What makes it really difficult for me is, I'm not as mobile as most people. So, I can't just go to the bank, withdraw cash and go get my medicines,” said Huerta.
Huerta said he doesn't know what else he can do, but keep making phone calls to find a solution to this.
Meantime, Autozone has told us that Huerta's problem has been resolved. But, Huerta won't know that for sure, until he tries to write a check.
