East El Paso- Denise Moran owns this plot of land in East El Paso, but nothing on it. That's because it's all trash, dumped and left behind by others. There's desks, cans, and a car among other things.
"The problem as far as we can tell is just going to get worse and worse," she says.
Take a deep breath on the property and you'll cough it back out. Most likely because of the dead dog left to rot there. Denise says there's a horse also buried underneath some dirt out here.
Roof shingles, broken bottles. Name a type of trash and it's probably here. So Denise and husband Julio took their concerns to both the City and the County. Both places left them wanting more.
Because both places said their hands were tied.
"The City said there's nothing they can do because it's out of city jurisdiction. County said that we pretty much have to catch someone dumping before they could take care of it," she says.
We called the County Attorney's Office for comment, and have yet to hear back. Denise knows it's her problem but says the County should do more to uphold the law.
"It's very frustrating because it's our land, it is private property, it's our responsibility. But dumping is illegal and everybody knows it."
Denise says she can get fined if they don't clean up the land. So the Morans have spent about a thousand dollars so far to haul out junk. It hasn't really made a dent.
Troubleshooters will follow up with the County on the issue...and help the Morans take out the trash.
