Troubleshooters: Woman Getting Kicked Out of Housing

EL PASO – An El Paso woman has reached out to us for help. She said she doesn't know what to do, since she's getting kicked out of public housing, after falsely being accused of fraud.

Vianey Alarcon said it came out of nowhere-- just two months ago, she was informed that she has until the end of April to leave the housing project where she's been living since late last year, because she's accused of fraud.

“Where am I going to run? To the street? I don't plan to go to the salvation army. I wasn't expecting this,” said Alarcon.

Alarcon said the staff that manages the housing project where she lives, said she illegally had her mother living with her. In public housing, it's considered fraudulent, to have a person living with you, that's not listed in the lease. But Alarcon said, she didn't do that.

"They say that they saw my mom here. I don't know if they have proof, but she was just staying for a couple of days. but that's about it...not like they say.”

Alarcon said when she went before the project's managers for a different matter, she was slapped with a form, that stated she could voluntarily leave, because of the fraud accusation. Alarcon signed that paper.

“I felt threatened because the investigator was there, the security was there. I wasn't expecting that,” stated Alarcon.

The Housing Authority of El Paso said because Alarcon signed the form, it's a done deal.

“If she feels that she hasn't been afforded due process, she can always seek redress through the Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid,” said Shane Griffith, the Public Information Officer for El Paso's Housing Authority.

Now Alarcon has just weeks to figure out where she's going to live with her daughters.

Hmmm...Something not right here...her Mom was there "a few days"? Then why would security notice? Everyone says this. Then she signs the form? She got caught, end of story. And where's the kid's father/family? Right--nowhere.

This is not a too bad so sad situation. This lady and her 2 daughters obviously need help with housing. Her mom stayed with her for a few days and she is asked to leave this is NOT RIGHT!!!! I hope the housing department starts doing surprise checks on all their tenants and so they can see they have a bigger problems with live-in boyfriends,actual fraud.

There is so much Fraud going on with so many ladies in Housing it's not even funny.They have their Boyfriends living with them,paying a few Dollar Rent and pocket the rest of the Money due that their men are not on the Lease and drive the nicest cars imaginable.I myself reported this kind of Fraud a few times,but nothing got done,yet this lady has a Vistor which is by the way is her Mom(not a livin boyfriend),get kicked out..Make Sense,I think not!

like truth 2011 wrote... to bad so sad! Two many people abusing the system using one family member to carry some fraudulent family loozer... I think i work with one of those! Here is a suggestion all you fraudulent loozers,, the system was put into place to help people that need help not help criminals that hide money into there IRA's and use hard working taxpayers money to help themselves... You got what you deserve hopefully more have they deserve coming to them!

Seriously, how many tenants non U.S. citizens living in HACEP units? They have the family, the uncle, the aunt, the cousins, the inlaws, etc. All collecting foodstamps, etc. and continue to abuse the system. Go to any project, they have a nice pad and cars. HACEP doesn't check income or background checks. Do they report vehicles with out state/country plates parked for more than 30 to 90 days? Managers should do their rounds (job) and not rely on gossip.

ALL HACEP MANAGERS BOTH FOR SEC8 AND PUBLIC HOUSING SHOULD BE MADE MANDATORY TO CHECK THEIR TENANTS FOR FRAUD. THE PUBLIC HOUSING MIGHT WANT TO GIVE INCENTIVE TO PERSONS WHO GIVE INFORMATION ON FRAUD. THE INFORMATION SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO AND NOT JUST FORGOTTEN. THIS IS SERIOUS BECAUSE IT IS HAPPENING AND YES IT IS NOT RIGHT. WE HAVE LONG WAITING LIST THAT WE CAN FIND PEOPLE THAT COULD GO BY HACEP RULES. THE GOVERNMENT WANTS TO TAKE THE FEW THINGS LOW INCOME PEOPLE RECIEVE.

totally agree! not only housing units but houses thru out el paso that are on section8 which the tenats only pay 20% of the cost of rent the taxpayers are forking out the rest i have neighbors on section8 and they have people living w/them epa has been called on them junk cars in driveway and street they have been busted for growing pot we have complained to housing authority and nothing talk about gov waste

I know the manager from the Hondo Pass housing apartments, actually let the tenants know when there is a tip on fraud, he actually gives time for the boyfriends or unlisted people to get out before inspection. She should try those apts!

Housing Authority of the City of EP (HACEP) is a joke!

Had a tenant that had her boyfriend listed as her son on HUD application and HACEP.

Tenant refused to pay her part of the rent on time and HACEP would say there was nothing they could do.

Tenant refused to leave when lease was over and stayed for over a month and HACEP said there was nothing they could do.

But they want to kick this lady out for having her mother visiting?

NEVER will rent to HUD tenant ever again

too bad so sad for another person taking advantage of the system anyway......who cares!!

who cares huh....what if you were in that situation. you have no right to say such a thing like that if you have no clue wat she goes through @the truth 2011
