U.S. troops at forward operating base lightning in Afghanistan got into the spirit of Christmas.
Leadership personnel did the honors of serving up a traditional Christmas meal to give troops a true taste of the holiday. They carved turkey and provided other holiday favorites to the sounds of some favorite Christmas tunes.
"Well, I certainly would like to be with my family during this time of year, but Christmas is a time where people get together and they share, and we eat good food, so it's not as bad as seems. But I certainly do wish I was home with my family," said Sgt. Marshall Masom.
The end of combat operations in Afghanistan is scheduled for next year followed by the withdrawal of the U.S.led military force by the end of 2014.
