Trial Begins For Man Accused of Killing 2 and Injuring 2 Others in Fiery West El Paso Crash
EL PASO — The trial for the man accused of driving drunk and killing two people in a fiery crash begins Monday.
Miguel Vargas, 23, is accused of intoxicated manslaughter in the deaths of Kim Araujo, 23, and Idaly Reyes, 19. He is also charged with two counts of intoxicated assault for injuries that two other passengers suffered.
According to El Paso Police, Vargas was speeding along Mesa St. in December, 2011 when he lost control of his vehicle near the Executive Center intersection. The vehicle went airborne over a rock wall, plunged down an embankment, then hit a tree and a building before it burst into flames.
Araujo and Reyes were in the vehicle and died at the scene.
