Security will be tight at the lighting of the National Tree tonight in Washington...

President Obama will flip the switch lighting the National Christmas Tree tonight, and security is expected to be especially tight for the event.

Flipping the light switch may take seconds, but hours and hours or preparations have to take place for a successful lighting of tree.

The U.S. Park Service allocated close to 10,000 tickets for an up close and personal view.

Performers for the big event include singer Sheryl Crow, rapper Common and Jordan Sparks.

President Obama will address the crowd.

If you're thinking about crashing without a ticket, think again.

"I don't think that we'll have that situation, because this is a ticketed event. An it's just an appearance by the President, so there's no meet and greet type of situation. And if you have a ticket, you're welcome to come in. If you don't have a ticket, you're not going to be able to come in," says U.S. Park Police Officer David Schlosser.

The National Tree lighting will be held night at 5:00 pm on the ellipse just south of the White House.
