LAS CRUCES — A man arrested Tuesday afternoon on an outstanding warrant was found to have a relatively large quantity of methamphetamine, heroin and crack cocaine taped to his underwear, Las Cruces police said.
Sean Paul Halpern, 31, was arrested on the outstanding District Court warrant and the Las Cruces/Dona Ana County Metro Narcotics Agency charged him with three additional counts of trafficking.
Halpern was spotted in the Mesquite Historic District. As the officers attempted to approach him, he took off running and led them on a short foot pursuit. Upon catching up to him and arresting him, police said a glass pipe with burnt residue fell out of his pocket. Halpern was found to be carrying a bag with additional paraphernalia, a large sum of cash and a scanner that he was apparently using to monitor police radio traffic.
During booking, guards discovered five plastic baggies containing methamphetamine, heroin and crack cocaine were found taped to the front of Halpern’s underwear. Metro Narcotics agents then charged Halpern with the three additional counts of trafficking.
He is being held in the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $90,000.
