Las Cruces man cited with DWI after four-car pileup
Las Cruces, NM (KTSM) — Las Cruces Police have issued four citations to a 21-year-old man accused of causing a four car pileup on around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday evening on Main St near El Paseo.
LCPD say that Michael Burton, 21, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Colorado west on El Paseo when he failed to navigate a turn onto Main Street around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday evening. Burton's car jumped the median and broadsided a 1980 Jeep that was stopped in the left turn lane of south Main Street.
The force of the impact pushed the Jeep into a Honda Pilot that was in the second turn lane, which in turn pushed into a Saturn Outlook in the outside lane.
The 47-year-old driver of the Jeep was briefly trapped inside his vehicle and suffered a leg injury. He was transported to Memorial Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The occupants of the Honda Pilot and Saturn Outlook were not seriously injured.
Burton was unresponsive at the scene and airlifted to University Medical Center in El Paso. He is now listed in stable condition at UMC.
Burton has since been cited with driving while intoxicated, careless driving, driving on a suspended license and not wearing a seatbelt.
