A 58-year-old woman was killed in La Luz, New Mexico Thursday evening when the mini-van she was driving was struck by a truck head-on around 7:19 p.m.

Jonathan Corn, 33, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet pick-up east on Alamo Street when he rear ended a 1987 GMC pick-up driven by Dale Long, 53. The impact of the crash caused Corn's pick-up to cross into west bound traffic and strike a 2001 Pontiac mini-van driven by Lucy Lucero.

Lucero died of injuries sustained in the crash. Corn had two passengers in his truck at the time, Jason Jennings, 35, and Christopher Lukasik, 32. Jennings was uninjured in the crash and Lukasik was transported to Gerald Champion Regional Memorial Center in Alamogordo with a broken jaw.

New Mexico State Police Officer Salvador Sambrano says that speed was a factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.

This is the third fatal crash investigated by NM State Police in March. Officials with the state police ask that Otero and Lincoln County residents travel with caution and buckle up while driving throughout the state.
