El Paso — The US Marines are hoping you can help them help families in the Borderland this Holiday season.
"If you have any idea what's going on there on the outskirts, there's a lot of poverty out there. People just need help!," Alfredo Garcia, a resident from Hueco Tanks says.
And others have heeded the call. riday morning and throughout the day, volunteers and KTSM staff members got together to collect unwrapped, unused toys and raise funds for this year's Toys for Tots."just in case if the community doesn't have enough toys that we collect, then we go to Toys R' Us, Walmart, what not, to buy toys," US Marine Staff Sergeant Armando Aguilar says.
Marines say in 2010, they provided 40,000 families with toys, this year they've bumped up the number to 70,000.
"Parents don't have enough money to buy their kids a toy or what not so we step in," SGT Aguilar tells us. Other residents have stepped in as well.
"This is what we are, this is El Paso," Garcia says.
Or, more literally speaking, drove in and dropped off their donations.
"There's a lot of people in need, you know, and I think it's the least you could do give out a little something to make someone's Christmas," Julio Rogers, an El Paso residents says.
Volunteers will be manning the phone lines until 7 PM tonight, you can call (915) 496-4480 to make a donation.
It doesn't matter if you donate in person, over the phone, or through the magic of the internet... You're still bringing joy to a child in need.
"Ah, man! If you've ever given, you win," Garcia exclaimed.
