LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KTSM) — Law enforcement in New Mexico have been targeting busy intersections with more crashes for traffic violations.
The extra enforcement began in January this year, in smaller communities with less police presence.
New Mexico State Police and the Motor Transportation Police haven't disclosed what the intersections are but say the operation has netted 623 citations, 60 misdemeanor arrests, 7 DWI arrests, and five felony drug arrests.
Officials say they will also work with the U.S. Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement to "identify possible border security issues."
Doña Ana County Sheriff's Dept. has committed to begin similar operations in the coming weeks.
