Tornillo Superintendent Placed on Leave
TORNILLO, TX — Another school superintendent in the Borderland could be out of a job. Last night the Tornillo school board voted to place Paul Vranish on paid leave while the district investigates allegations by the Texas Education Agency that Vranish misused district money. A state auditor concluded that Vranish used his personal credit card to pay for district purchases and then allegedly reimbursed himself more money that he was owed. The TEA initially questioned more than $47,000 dollars of Vranish's expenses. He has since provided receipts to the TEA accounting for all but about $2500 of that money. The forensic auditor is now evaluating Vranish's spending.
