EL PASO - It is called the Pulitzer Prize for high school newspapers and a local high school just took home the prize.

The Pacemaker Award is given to high school newspaper journalism programs.

This year, the Burges High School journalism program was awarded the Pacemaker.

Journalism sponsor Pat Monroe says this is a very big deal.

"It's a very tough competition. Literally hundreds of newspapers across the country compete. They are broken down by the number of pages that you do. And in our category we do 12 pages."

This is the third consecutive year that the Burges High School journalism program has been awarded the pacemaker.
