EL PASO--- Rene Bullitt knows the process too well.
Move through the crowd, get in line and wait.

She's been going to job expos and fairs like Wednesday's for three years, since she was laid off.

"They did some corporate moves, what they call 'synergy,' so they decided to downsize," she said. "So unfortunately their manufacturing facility was closed here in El Paso, and they moved operations over to Mexico and overseas."

She was a quality manager at the auto parts plant for 15 years.
She says, even with 85 employers looking for 1,500 workers at the Rio Grande Workforce Solutions job expo, she thinks she may come out empty-handed.

"I'm actually a little disappointed. There are a lot of employers here, but I was looking for more people looking for professionals," she said.

More than 7,000 people came to the Convention Center to apply for work, but this is just a small percentage of the area's unemployed.

29,000 people are without jobs in the borderland.

"It is a lot of people, I think you just have to be prepared, present yourself as well as you can, and just hope for the best," said Bullitt. "I know my own personal skills that I possess, and you just go out thinking positive, hoping that you'll find something."

Bullitt says she'll continue to come to expos like this one, walk through a sea of people who are all looking for that same something... work.
