We've all seen it, maybe even done it -- texting and walking.
Earlier this year, researchers at Australia's University of Queensland found texting and walking inhibits one's balance and ability to walk in a straight line.
This may come as no surprise, but a new study by Safe Kids Worldwide shows this group to be most likely to be hit by a car from being distracted.
The study found 1 in 8 middle schoolers were distracted while texting and walking, while 1 in 5 high schoolers were distracted.

"My younger brother.. he's.. 15? He texts and walks all the time," said Charles Grady, a resident of Washington.

The study also adds teenagers that are 15-19 account for half of the pedestrian accidents under 19.

"I've seen a couple of dudes, they were texting and walking and ran into a pole," Grady said.

In 2012, there were more than a 1000 people treated in an emergency department from an accident while using a cell phone or other handheld device according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Residents also add, this doesn't just apply to teens. College students and adults are guilty of it as well.

"Try not to be so attached to your phones... look up every once in awhile," said Eddie Vela, east El Paso.
