Texas War On Wild Hogs

Texas War On Wild Hogs

A new effort to clip the feral hog population in Texas begins today. The state will offer money to hunters who kill the hogs.

County officials voted to pay $2 a tail for any feral hog killed and the program runs until the end of the year.

The invasive animals cause lots of damage to farm fields -- an estimated 200 dollars in property damage per year per hog.

Most of the pigs were set free by farmers when the pork market bottomed out.

Right now the state estimates there are about 1.5 million feral hogs in Texas, and that number is growing.
