Texas Tech surpasses their enrollment record

For the fifth year in a row, Texas Tech University has broken their enrollment record.

According to univerity officials, there was a recorded 33,111 students in the fall semester, which represents a nearly 16 percent increase over the last decade and was accomplished following a second-straight record year of more than 7,000 degrees conferred.

This increase also means the university is well on its way to reaching its 40,000 student- enrollment goal by 2020.

According to Texas Tech officials, it was more than just breaking their own record. It was about the individual records set within the 2013 Texas Tech University fall class.

• A record 6,308 Hispanic students

• A record 2,044 African-American students

• A record 4,892 first-time undergraduate students

• A record 2,657 transfer undergraduate students

• An 82 percent retention rate of last year’s freshman class, the highest since 2007

• A 5 percent increase in enrollment for the Whitacre College of Engineering and its first 5,000-plus enrollment

• A 4 percent increase in enrollment for the Rawls College of Business, College of Agriculture Sciences and Natural Resources, and College of Media & Communication
