Texas Student Arrested in Bomb Plot
LUBBOCK, TX - A Saudi Arabian man who attends college in Texas is accused of plotting a bomb attack.
Texas FBI agents arrested 20-year-old Khalid Ali-M Aldawsari late yesterday.
Aldawsari is a chemical engineering student at South Plains College in Lubbock and has been charged with attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction.
Federal prosecutors say he had been researching how to build an improvised explosive device using several chemicals as ingredients.
According to an affidavit, Aldawsari bought explosive chemicals online as part of a plan to hide bomb materials inside dolls and baby carriages.
It also alleges he was researching potential U.S. targets including dams, nuclear plant and the home of former president George Bush.
Aldawsari is expected to appear in federal court in Lubbock tomorrow morning.
