Texas Short 9 Billion Dollars In Sales Tax Revenue

Texas lawmakers had 167 Billion dollars to work with until Monday.
Just one day before they're set to convene, they learned they'll have to deal with a 9 Billion dollar shortfall.
The state's Controller says Texans are not spending money like they used to. The situation is the result of the current economic crisis.
State Controller Susan Combs says while a 9 Billion dollar shortfall is bad, it's not like Texas doesn't have any options.
If there's any positive news, El Paso is doing better financially than the rest of the state.
In November, the Sun City saw a decline of less than 1 percent in sales tax revenue.
Even so, the city is imposing a hiring freeze for most departments and making cuts where it can.
