Texas Reports First 2017 Case of Locally Transmitted Zika

Texas reports first locally transmitted case of Zika in US this year

Texas reports the first locally transmitted case of the Zika virus in the United States this year.

According to the Texas Dept. of State Health Services, a resident of Hidalgo County has now recovered from the Zika virus, and is believed to be the first case of Zika infected within the county.

Dept. officials said they think the infection was probably transmitted by a mosquito bite in S. Texas in the last few months because the individual has not traveled outside the area.

The Dept. said there's currently no risk of the virus spreading within the community or mosquitos and that there's no evidence of local transmission anywhere in the state at the time.
