CORSICANA, TX — Corsicana authorities are investigating a case in which a baby was left abandoned in a handbag under a homeowner's carport.

At 8:53 p.m. Sunday, the Corsicana Police Department were dispatched to of a found baby. The newborn boy was found towel-wrapped, incased in a pillowcase inside a handbag. The infant still had the umbilical cord attached. The Hispanic or white baby was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Child Protective Services was notified.

Law enforcement contacted regional agencies and hospitals about the abandoned baby in case they encountered a woman that appeared to have recently given birth and possibly needed medical attention, but did not have a baby or explanation to where the baby was resting. Corsicana Independent School District officials were also notified.

Det. Greg Cloud has been assigned to conduct the follow-up investigation.
