Texas Exempts Sales Tax On Energy Rated Appliances

EL PASO -- This Memorial Day Weekend is the Texas Energy Star Sales Tax Holiday that gives people purchasing Energy Star rated appliances in Texas a sales tax exemption at the register.

Anyone in Texas can qualify for the exemption as long as the appliance has an Energy Star logo and is less than $2,000 for refrigerators and less than $6,000 for air conditioners.

"I bought a new freezer cause my old one was costing me too much electricity, and this was a good weekend to buy," said Judy Bargman at a West El Paso Best Buy.

When:
Memorial Day Weekend; Saturday May 26, 12:01 a.m. through Monday, May 28, 11:59 p.m.

The items that qualify for the sales tax exemption are:
•Air conditioners priced at $6,000 or less
•Refrigerators priced at $2,000 or less
•Ceiling fans
•Incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs
•Clothes washers
•Dishwashers
•Dehumidifiers
•Programmable thermostats*
