Teen gets his wish to cook alongside professional chefs on Mother's Day
El Paso, TX (KTSM) — It was a very special day for the mom of an El Paso boy who has been diagnosed with cancer. Michael Tingle, who has always dreamed of becoming a chef, prepared a meal alongside a professional cook, specially for his mom.
Michael says he has always wanted to become a chef and on Sunday he's one more meal closer to his dream.
Wearing a chef's coat, exclaiming, ‘best day ever’ and a smile, Michael Tingle prepares to step into the Hilton Garden Inn's kitchen near UTEP, "Oh, I'm nervous to cook. I never dealt with this before,” Michael Tingle, a 13-year-old El Pasoan said.
With just a dash of uncertainty.his goal supersedes his nerves. "My Mom has helped me through everything and I wanted to pay her back really nice."The teen has always dreamed of becoming a professional chef since helping out his Mom around the house. He said his mother taught him everything.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation granted his wish and the chefs at the hotel agreed to teach him how they cook.
"I feel great. This is what I wanted to do for a long time for my parents and everything." A meal for his mother, who has been helping him cope with chemotherapy.
"He misses his friends at school, I'm sorry. But he's been through a lot, you know,” Michelle Tingle, his mother explained through tears. He was diagnosed with a desmoid tumor in February. A cancer which has spread throughout his sinus cavity. "He's been doing all right but he has his moments where he cries because he started to be sick all the time,” she said.
But the teen was in good spirits and good company. Cooking up a meal, for the special lady in his life and he said next year, he’ll do the same.
