Teen arrested for allegedly striking man with gun
LAS CRUCES — A 19-year-old suspected of striking a man with the butt of a handgun was arrested Saturday by Las Cruces Police. Dondre Shaquill Robinson is charged with one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Las Cruces Police say it was shortly after noon on Saturday when they were called to an apartment complex at 1410 Chaparro St. Detectives learned that Robinson and a 15-year-old friend were walking in the apartment complex when they were approached by two adult men. One of the adult men, a 24-year-old, demanded that the juvenile return an ID card.
Police say that as the juvenile and 24-year-old exchanged words, Robinson pulled a black handgun from his waistband and struck the man’s face with the butt of the gun. The victim suffered a broken tooth and bruising as a result of the incident. Police say Robinson and the juvenile fled to a nearby apartment where they were found by police.
Robinson was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $5,000.
