Don't panic. At least not until Monday, taxes aren't due until then.
You can thank Abraham Lincoln. Federal Workers are observing Emancipation Day, when he freed the slaves during the Civil War. That pushes tax day from the 15th to the 18th.
David Marcus is a CPA and he says just like every year, people are coming in last minute.
"The IRS in their main office is closed tomorrow and so everybody has an extra holiday. It's not a holiday here, but because it's a holiday there the federal government is giving everybody until the 18th to file," Marcus said.
So you've got a few extra days to file and that's news to most El Pasoans we're talking to.
Marcus says these three extra days will keep him busy.
"It's been extremely different this year. We're probably two or three weeks behind schedule on the normal clients who would come in in March are coming in the end of March beginning of April now," Marcus said.
Devin Terrin says she didn't know about the extra time cushion, but it comes as a nice surprise.
"Yeah of course everyone is struggling for deadlines no matter what," Terrin said.
If you still don't make it by Monday you can always file an extension, but filing late can cost you in penalties.
